Peter Ferguson’s “Mock Robin” at Roq La Rue.
Currently on view at Roq La Rue in Seattle, Washington is artist Peter Ferguson’s solo exhibition, “Mock Robin.”
Meticulously painted, Ferguson’s darkly humorous narratives evoke an achronological magical realism, featuring composite cities and landscapes comprised of everything from from 16th Century European towns to early 20th century Americana (or Canadiana as the case may be). Combining grandiose narratives of the great ages of exploration with a distinctly paranormal bent, Ferguson’s work subtly hovers the line between fantasy, surrealism, and realism without ever falling into either of them fully. Norman Rockwell meets H.P. Lovecraft. Luminously painted and complex in their composition, his paintings are made with a built in patina to evoke the feel of long lost magical works found in the dusty corner of some old gentleman’s explorer club library.
The exhibition will be on view until November 28th, 2018.

Hold her head against your chest. Tangle your hands in her hair and thank the stars you can breathe her in. Press your lips against her forehead. Tell her you’ll never leave. Tell her you’re sorry. Draw maps on her forearms, write love notes behind her knees, trace your fingers along the curves of her hips and memorize her while you can. Freckles and scars and dimples. Love is not a mirage, or a dream that we can conjure. Love is whispering, even the words that shake you the most. Love is making wishes on her breast bone when you can hear her heartbeat.
